This April, HoPES co-leader Dr. How Bing Shen embarked on a compact yet incredibly fruitful 7-day tour of Taiwan, bridging connections between Swinburne Sarawak, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), and National Taiwan University (NTU).

First Stop: National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan
The visit kicked off with high energy in Tainan, centering on knowledge transfer and academic synergy:

•    Student Research Showcases: The day began with a series of research presentations from NCKU postgraduate students, showcasing impressive local talent and innovative problem-solving.

•    Faculty Networking: Meaningful dialogues were held with NCKU department professors, exchanging strategic ideas on contemporary process engineering challenges and potential institutional collaborations.

•    P-graph Workshop (Session 1): Dr. How conducted an interactive P-graph workshop. Despite being new to the framework, the participants demonstrated exceptional engagement, exploring how the tool can optimize and solve complex process network problems

Second Stop: Symposium on Thermodynamics and Process Systems Engineering, Xitou
The journey then transitioned to the scenic forest recreation area of Xitou for the Symposium on Thermodynamics and Process Systems Engineering.

•    Keynote Presentation: Dr. How delivered an invited keynote speech focusing on carbon trading scheme optimization, showcasing the development of various Process Integration (PI) tools designed to support macro-level sustainability optimization. Special thanks are extended to Prof. Chen Cheng-Liang for the prestigious keynote invitation.

•    Community Engagement: The symposium served as an excellent hub for reconnecting with long-time peers and engaging with new researchers, opening up fresh avenues for future collaborative process systems engineering projects.

Final Stop: National Taiwan University (NTU), Taipei
Moving up to Taipei, the momentum continued to build after a brief weekend cultural immersion hosted by student "ambassadors" arranged by Dr. Bor-Yih (Jeffrey) Yu.

•    P-graph Workshop (Session 2): Hosted at NTU, this session drew a diverse crowd of participants from various universities across Taipei. Several attendees expressed strong interest in actively integrating the P-graph framework into their current research models.

•    Strategic Networking: The day concluded with a networking lunch with NTU Chemical Engineering faculty, followed by a joint research presentation session with Taipei-based students and a social gathering with regional PSE professors.
