Two HoPES Researchers Present at SDEWES Conference
Two postgraduate students from the HoPES research group, Mr. Chew Yick Eu and Ms. Cheng Xin Hui, successfully presented their research at the 20th Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems (SDEWES).
The 20th jubilee edition of the SDEWES conference took place from October 5 to 10, 2025, in the historic coastal city of Dubrovnik, Croatia. Reflecting its growing global importance, the event served as a massive hub for sustainability engineering, gathering 785 world-class scientists, researchers, and industry experts representing 68 countries across six continents.
The contributions from the HoPES representatives highlighted strategic engineering frameworks designed to tackle regional and industrial energy transitions:
• Ms. Cheng Xin Hui delivered a presentation titled “Macro-Scale Energy Systems Optimisation for Low Carbon Energy Integration: A Strategic Approach for Sarawak’s Energy Transition.” Her work outlines a high-level strategic framework to effectively integrate clean energy sources, providing crucial insights for the decarbonization of Sarawak's regional energy grid.
• Mr. Chew Yick Eu presented his research titled “Resources and Maintenance Allocation Optimisation for Energy Systems in an Industrial Cluster.” His study explores fair financial compensation and management during disruptions to sustain long-term collaboration in industrial symbiosis.
